Fluval Hose Size Chart: 14.5 mm and 17 mm by Filter Series
Fluval uses two hose sizes across its whole canister range. The 04 through 07 series take hose Fluval states as 14.5mm, part A20014. The 304 through 407 series take hose Fluval states as 17mm, part A20015.
Hose size on a Fluval tracks the size class, not the generation. A 104 and a 107 take the same hose. This guide gives you the chart, the part numbers, and what the number does and does not tell you.
What hose size does my Fluval canister use?
Two sizes cover the whole lineup. Small and medium class filters use hose stated as 14.5mm. Large and XL class filters use hose stated as 17mm. Both numbers are Fluval's own, from its listed replacement hose parts.

Is 14.5 mm the inside or the outside of the hose?
Fluval does not say. Its pages state the size and stop there, on both the 14.5mm part and the 17mm part.
That distinction is the whole game for an adapter. A barb keys on the inside of the hose. Cut a barb to 14.5mm as an inside size when the real inside is smaller, and it will not go on. Cut it the other way and it will not hold. One unlabeled number can send you either way.
So there is no Fluval sized adapter in the TankRig range, and no inside or outside figure for Fluval hose anywhere on this site. What you can do today is read both numbers off the hose in your hand, using the steps below, and match them to a size we do make.

How do you read the size off your own Fluval hose?
Two numbers do it: the inside of the opening and the outside of the wall. No special tools needed. A soft tape, a small ruler, or a drill bit set is enough.
- Read the inside of the hose first. Ease a small rod, a drill bit, or the end of a tape gently into the opening until it just touches both sides.
- Write the number down in millimeters. Working in inches? Note the closest fraction and convert it after.
- Read the outside next. Wrap a soft tape around the hose and divide the distance around by about 3.14.
- Write both numbers down and label which is which. A hose that reads 14.5mm on the outside and one that reads 14.5mm on the inside are two different fits.
- Take a second reading with the hose off the filter and relaxed. A hose still under tension reads a little tight.
Fluval's hose size tracks filter class, not the generation number
Hose size on a Fluval canister depends on which size class the filter belongs to, not which generation it is.
Every generation in the 104 through 207 small and medium class uses the same 14.5mm hose. Every generation in the 304 through 407 large and XL class uses the same 17mm hose. A 107 and a 104 take the same hose. A 307 and a 304 take the same hose. The two classes do not share a size with each other.
This is the part that matters when you are shopping for a used filter or a replacement hose and only know the model name. Find your class first, then use the size for the class.

Yes, within the same size class. A 107, 106, 105, and 104 all use the 14.5mm hose. The 307 and other large class models use the 17mm hose instead.

Why do third party sellers list different sizes for the same Fluval hose?+
Each seller arrives at its own number, and those numbers do not agree with each other. None of them are Fluval's, which is why this page treats them as a starting point rather than a size.
Is it safe to use a printed adapter on my Fluval filter?+
Our adapters are PETG, the material aquarium keepers have used submerged for years. Rinse any new printed part in clean water before it goes in your tank. There is no Fluval sized part in the range today.
